O Sleeper

A Poem

Sleep dethroned despotic Thought
And through Dream’s gates I ran
To dance among things I forgot
When Thought’s rule began.

Partials made complete,
Contradictions fixed.
Paradoxes, obsolete,
As I with all was mixed.

Rest’s ramparts broke,
Cloud castles burned;
From Eden I awoke
And begged to be returned.

Eve leaves some awake
To guard the Garden’s snake.
