He Looked On

A Poem

I stared at the sun,
Dared it to run 
From my sight;
In spite, I looked on.

I had begun
Mad for the fun
Of an Icarus flight.
In spite, I looked on.

I turned to shun,
Burned, things done
To ease my plight.
In spite, I looked on.

I finished the pun;
Diminished, a son
Succumbed to the light.
Despite, he looked on.
